Biblical Stories for Children: Ruth and Naomi |
Ruth and Naomi By Jean Marzollo |
Awards:
Another Bible story vividly and refreshingly retold by Jean Marzollo introduces the widowed Ruth, who remains loyal to her mother-in-law Naomi, travels to a new city, and finally finds comfort and joy with farmer Boaz. This hopeful story of courage and loyalty shows how happiness can come about in unexpected ways. Vibrant illustrations accompany the moving story, and small rabbit characters at the bottom of each page offer lively commentary. This story is more than a typical Bible picture book. Jean Marzollo created a book in which children will find something new each time they read it (and they will want to read it over and over again)! Widowed Ruth decides to accompany her mother-in-law Naomi to her former home in Bethlehem. In spite of the discrimination that the Bethlehemites show towards Ruth because she is a Moabite, Ruth is determined to help provide for herself and Naomi. She eventually meets the rich farmer Boaz and with Naomi's help, she is able to marry him. The book features a conversational narrative, comic-book style conversations, poems to be sung to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell", and a rabbit's commentary at the bottom of each page encouraging children to think further about the story. An excellent choice for elementary school readers. Lori's Description |
